How To Launch Games For Sega's Arcade Emulators (Nebula and Supermodel)? - Maleel - 12-12-2021

Has anyone figured out how to launch games for Nebula/Model 2 and Supermodel (Model 3 Emulator)?

Searching online the only two posts I can find are these;
https://www.reddit.com/r/playnite/comments/p75c8z/integrating_playnite_with_sega_model_3_emulator/
https://www.reddit.com/r/playnite/comments/774oav/help_with_settings_for_nebulamodel_2_emulator/

Neither of which were solutions that worked for me or the OP of those threads.
The most I seem to be able to pull off is launching the UI versions of both emulators, but that of course is only the interface, the actual games I can't launch unless I launch them from said interface.

First you configure a new emulator like this, pay attention to the
Installation Folder
and
Executable
fields making sure that those point to where your files are.
Make sure the Supported File Types is set to zip not .zip

To find the roms configure an auto-scan like this, making sure the Scan Folder field is pointed at where you have your games located.  You will want to disable the checksum scans for these as it will pull up wildly incorrect info.

After the scan the games will be listed by their zipfile name if you want proper game names you will need to go and edit each one individually to give it a proper name.

Also note that doing this when you have other games on your Playnite list will give you a game library named "None" with your Supermodel 3 library as it's games.

I was not able to get the Model 2 emulator working like this.

After reading info from

https://github.com/JosefNemec/Playnite/issues/221

and

https://playnite.link/docs/manual/emulators.html

I got the M2 Model 2 emulator working.
Create a new emulator like with the Supermodel Model 3 as above, and in the custom profiles area the "Arguments" field needs to have {ImageNameNoExt} as the only item, with no quotes.

You will also need to edit the emulator.ini file found in the emulator install folder to include the path to where you keep your roms.

Thanks! I got it working! {ImageNameNoExt} is so much better than loading the rom on the emulator. Have a nice day!

I created an extension which lets you easily add templates for emulators that Playnite does not have built-in support for.

This includes Supermodel and M2 / SEGA Model 2 Emulator.

You can download the extension and the template for Supermodel from this thread (I will upload the template for the SEGA Model 2 Emulator later)

Because of the changes made by Playnite 9, this extension is not compatible with Playnite 9. You can only use it if you are using Playnite 7 or 8.

Tip: You may not need to manually set the names of every SM3 rom you imported. Try using the IGDB metadata plugin to detect the game names of the SM3 roms.
