This to help anyone attempting to use explorer.exe as a emulator.
For ages I’ve been trying to use playnite as a front end on a windows 10 pc (stripped down to basics) but with emulators installed and configured ready to use with a controller out of the box.
Whenever attempted to use explorer.exe it would only open explorer.exe instead of the game/app I was trying to open up
Anyways set up an emulator such as (pc apps) or (offline_installers)
Set the file path to “c:/windows”
Set file as “explorer.exe”
Argument as “{imagePath}”
Supported File type “lnk”
Auto scan config
Name “Pc games” or “pc apps”
Folder “path to desktop/start menu/ where ur shortcuts are”
End result - auto scans for lnk files so you don’t have to keep adding games from elsewhere through the menu
Possible uses - if had offline installers such as gog games/ dlc you could create a new platform called “installer” or something and set 2 different folders up
1) folder with games only
2) gog dlc’s named correctly
This could then create a library with installer files separateing dlc and games
Could also use a download manger with the right command arguments to download a weblink to a certain folder e.g server/rom site - download to rom folder (then refresh playnite)
Or could have a music/ movie library long as you make shortcuts to the files. However if edit file type could possible achieve same outcome
