07-Apr-22: I'm using this theme on 9.16 with some minor problems. I haven't been able to update this theme in a long time, pull requests are very helpful and would be quickly integrated if submitted to the GitLab page linked below.

A theme I built for myself because I like an older version of the Steam layout.

This is a pretty early and very unfinished version, but it's the best I have right now and people have been asking for this.

The correct aspect ratio for cover art is 171:80, that is what Steam actually rendered at by default. Playnite's preset is incorrect because it's based off of the source image instead of Steam. Crow refuses to fix this so you'll have to set the rendering ratio manually.

Very nice! To be honest, I was thinking of the original pea-green Steam but this is much better choice (though part of me still wants something similar for the nostalgia factor). Great job with this!

Are you talking about the tall covers that Steam uses now? You should be able to use them with this theme. Just go into Settings, then select Grid on the left, and change the target aspect ratio to 2:3 (or select Steam New UI from the targets menu).

Not quite, the target aspect ratio is 2:3, but it looks like this:

Did you try changing the item spacing? Otherwise a simple edit in the xaml file should make it look better. I'll play around with it later tonight and see if I can't make the grid work better with 2:3 covers.

edit: I tried a few things that I thought would have some effect and oddly enough nothing happens. In fact, I can't even get it to the point that you have it at. I just noticed that OP stated that a lot of the stuff is hardcoded and I'm not thinking I can change anything without loading this into VS. This theme is still a WIP though so hopefully OP can address your requests in a future update.

There is no friends button in the current version of the theme, I'm waiting for a Playnite update to allow me to add it to the panel I need it to be in.

As for the view mode button, is it changing to a lighter green when you mouse over it, or is it not reacting at all?
