What is this extension:
Playnite Sounds is an extension to play audio files during Playnite events. It can only play WAV audio files and nothing else

Playnite Version needed
Playnite Version 8.2 (minimum)

Generic audio files info
There are 2 seperate set of sound files. Audio Files starting with 'D_' and files starting with 'F_'. The 'D_' files are the audio files for desktop mode, the 'F_' files for fullscreen mode. If you don't want to hear a certain file you can just delete the wav file of the event you don't want to hear. You can also change the files with your own files. Be sure to use the 'Open Audio Files Folder' menu for doing so. It will make sure loaded audio files get closed so you can overwrite them. Make sure playnite does not play any audio anymore after opening the folder or it's possible you can't overwrite that specific file. With my testings it did seem you could still first erase the files. After changing the audio files use the 'Reload Audio Files' menu to clear any loaded files and use your new files, or just restart Playnite. Do NOT use a long audio file for ApplicationStopped as Playnite will not quit until that audio file has finished playing. The same applies for switching between desktop and fullscreen mode.

Audio files that can be used
Playnite Startup: D_ApplicationStarted.wav - F_ApplicationStarted.wav
Playnite Exit: D_ApplicationStopped.wav - F_ApplicationStopped.wav
Game Installed: D_GameInstalled.wav - F_GameInstalled.wav
Game UnInstalled: D_GameUninstalled.wav - F_GameUninstalled.wav
Game Selected: D_GameSelected.wav - F_GameSelected.wav

Game Starting: D_GameStarting.wav - F_GameStarting.wav
Game Started: D_GameStarted.wav - F_GameStarted.wav
Game Stopped: D_GameStopped.wav - F_GameStopped.wav
Game LibraryUpdated: D_LibraryUpdated.wav - F_LibraryUpdated.wav

Creating your own audio files
A very simple and free tool to create (game) sounds is SFXR, you can use it to create certain blip and blop sounds and perhaps use it to create your own sound files to be used with Playnite Sound extension. If you want to record your own sounds or edit existing sounds you could use audacity
SFXR: https://www.drpetter.se/project_sfxr.html
Audacity: https://www.audacityteam.org/

Changelog:
Version 3.1:
  • Fixed CloseAudioFiles "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Error when not all audio files exists
Version 3.0:
  • Sound Manager added by dfirsht

  • fixed (timing) problem where sounds could still be locked in CloseAudioFiles (will retry for max 500ms per file to close)

  • Updated Translations:
    Italian: Federico Pezzuolo (3XistencE-STUDIO)
    German: kristheb
    Hungarian: myedition8
    Porutgese, Brazillian: atemporal_ (Atemporal)
Version 2.0:
  • c# plugin version

  • music per game, platform or global support

  • choose where to play music / sound

  • sound files are saved in plugin data folder (backup your sound files !!!!)

  • volume for music
Version 1.1:
  • workaround for the problem where audio was not playing after system suspend / resume
Version 1.0:
  • Initial Release

Download
Because of the added (default) wav files the extension is too big to attach to this forum post but you can download it from my github here https://github.com/joyrider3774/PlayniteSound/releases
Be Sure to download the PEXT file

V3.0 Release/Showcase Video

V2.0-3.0 Bug which i can not fix
V2.0 might trigger a bug where the normal sound files stop playing using playnite sounds when music is used. I can not fix this bug but when this happens you can reload audio files and they should play again. Also if you don't need music you can keep using the V1.1 version where this bug did not seem to happen.

INCREDIBLE! thanks man, you sent it very well!

In the future there could be an option to Load specific sound folders, so we could have packages
Xbox, Playstation, Steam ....

Steam Big Picture mode sounds for Playnite Sounds: https://mega.nz/file/WQ1yHIyI#UhwdZ4vqn9...yv0qSXmEjg

Uses the same sounds that are used by Steam's Big Picture mode that correspond with a Playnite action with the exception of Library Update, which doesn't exist in Steam. Included are files renamed for both Desktop and Fullscreen mode, extract the wanted files in the Playnite Sounds's Audio files folder.

i can't do anything if i don't know what goes wrong, your the 1st one where it does not work. So without the playnite.log file i can't do much. There are numerous way to share it use any of the filesharing providers upload your playnite.log so i can potentially see what goes wrong

Don't see any mentions of errors, does your media player in windows work ? can you try opening the wav files in the extensions directory with windows media player (manually) and do they play ?

Guys,

I released a new version with a workaround for the problem where audio was not playing after system suspend / resume. If you have changed your audio files be sure to back them up before you install the new version as your files will get overwritten

I'm curious if this could be used to play specific sounds on a per game basis.  Would be neat to have Spyro or Metal Gear play sounds just on those games that relate to them.

It works perfectly so far

I would like to make some requests for fullscreen:

- Sound for changing top menu filter in fullscreen (LB/RB or L1/R1) navigation
- Sound for going back from game details to main screen (B button)
- Sound for selecting game and viewing game details (A button)

i can't add those, i can only add sounds for existing events and all events that existed i added sounds for. this would probably require changes in playnite itselve to make such events available
