The ability to set paths to game manuals was introduced back in Playnite 8.0 While this feature is a welcome addition, manually linking a manual to each game is inefficient.
The manual field does not have a file select so you could not even select the file manually.
I decided to create an extension to speed up the process of adding manuals.
Description/Features:
Future Plans / How you can help to improve this:
Compatibility: Due to the Great 8 Break, this extension is not compatible with any version of Playnite after v8.15.
(I will release this for Playnite 9 if somebody can explain all of the changes needed to convert P8 scripts to P9)
If you found this extension useful, you can find more of my extensions here
After these forums close I will upload add-ons to https://mega.nz/folder/M2lQjAwK#njde1JEQbJjquOAojrXF_A
The manual field does not have a file select so you could not even select the file manually.
I decided to create an extension to speed up the process of adding manuals.
Description/Features:
- The main feature of this extension is the ability to scan your installed game folders to find manuals and link them to games in Playnite.
- This has been designed to reduce the amount of user input as far as possible. For example - If a game folder has more than one PDF (usually different languages), it will silently determine which file to use. It will only ask for user confirmation if it is uncertain that the PDF chosen really is a manual or if the game has multiple PDFs but it was unable to determine the desired manual using the preferred language or preferred country.
- I also included a manual option to let you choose a PDF to link to any selected game. A feature missing from Playnite 8.
Future Plans / How you can help to improve this:
- improve detection of country code - You can help out by posting in this thread about any game that asked you to select a file out of multiple PDFs found for a single game. It does this when it can not determine which file should be used. If you report the full names of these files, I should be able to improve the country code detection.
- improve the calculation of the actual installation path for games. (It is not always the same as the InstallDirectory recorded in Playnite 8) (You can help by running tests and reporting any incorrect results as explained in this thread here)
- determine if the PDF found is not a manual (e.g. bonus/DLC such as artbook or comic) and ignore these files
- give user the ability to set the preferred language (It is set to 'English' in the beta release) DONE
- give user the ability to set the preferred country code (It is set to 'US' in the beta release) DONE
