Install Button | Install your local PC games (non-store-based)

Description

OK, I know what you might be thinking: "Playnite already has a freaking install button, why would I want another one?"

Well, that's a great question. I have a long list of PC games that I own that are either DRM free installers or have been converted to ISOs from CDs and DVDs (remember when games used to come on those?).

You can obviously manually add those inside of Playnite to be a part of your library, but then when you want to install them, Playnite won't know how. This can help to fix that, although it is not fully automated.

How Does It Work?

Imagine you have games that you have manually added into Playnite (i.e. they are .exe or .iso files on your PC). You can go to each game and add a "Rom," pointing to the executable file or disk image of the game. You will then be able to install that game using this extension.

Setup

1. Install this extension.
2. Edit/Add local games to your library. For each game, add a "Rom" entry under the Installation tab pointing to either an EXE or ISO file.

3. Use the disc icon in the top menu bar to install the selected game.

4. After installation is complete, you will be prompted for the location of the game's executable. Navigate to the install folder, choose the correct executable and click Open.

5. At this point, you are done. The game has been installed, and all fields in Playnite have been updated so that you can launch the game.

Nice plugin ... makes it a little easier Smile

but it would be nicer if it would work via the existing install button and not via an extra button ...

What would be nice if there was an "Install Action" in Playnite, where we can insert a Script, .exe or .iso ... similar to "Play Action" only for installation.
I hope this feature coming soon in Playnite.

Custom Install Actions were on the Playnite 10 Patreon Poll. I voted for it but it didn't even have a shot at making the cut. It's the last major feature I want out of Playnite but it seems users like us are in the minority. Using the ROM location is a bit wonky but it's a start. My main concern would be for using scripts to copy ROMs from a Cloud/Network drive to "install" emulated titles.

Using the existing install button is something I'm looking into. I'm not sure that I can do it without theme support.

Hopefully the moving of actual ROMS could be implemented in such a way that you could select the sources to which you want it applied.

I mean technically you can use the play action as a custom install.

You go to the game you want the custom play action for and add new play action and make sure it says a tick next to game is installed else it doesn’t work.

I’ve managed to use this as a script with archive.org with a file I uploaded. Half to say it works but need the script to extract a zip file other than that ISO’s work very well.

If had a source of say ps1 games could add all to library with custom installs ready for when you want to download them 3rd party

I got banned for a day for some obvious reason, Apologize I didn't read the rules at first.
Here's the issue again if anyone got any solution for this.
I used this extension and it ran well, it allowed me to add local non-installed game to the library. When I hit download/install button it ran the installation wizard, but it didn't allowed me to minimize the wizard so I can use the playnite in the meanwhile. During installtion, playnite becomes totally unresponsive to any of the commands. I can't wait for the installation to complete because some take many hours to complete. Any help will be really appreciated that allows me to use playnite during installation.
Also there's another bug I ran across with this extension, when I cancelled the installation window without installing, it still considers the game as installed rather than non-installed. Hope the devs fixes these bugs.
